By utilizing AI Large Language Models (LLMs) to query a vast database of 10-K SEC filings, NDR can assess the impact of tariffs on S&P 500 companies, specifically those related to Mexico and Canada. This approach involves gathering risk data from annual reports, prompting the AI to identify tariff risks, and converting the responses into a binary time series to estimate aggregate exposure.

NDR’s method offers a significant advantage over traditional keyword searches, which often miss nuanced mentions of tariff risks. For example, while a simple search for "tariff" might overlook indirect references to tariff impacts, the AI method captures these subtleties, providing a more accurate assessment. This AI-driven analysis identified 61.23% of S&P 500 constituents with tariff risks, compared to only 39.96% identified by keyword searches.

Additionally, NDR’s extensive database allows for sector-specific analysis, revealing which areas of the market are most impacted by tariffs. This detailed insight is crucial for understanding the broader implications of tariff policies. By integrating AI into its research process, NDR demonstrates its commitment to providing precise, objective, and actionable market analysis, helping clients make informed investment decisions.
